Applesauce Cake

Moist and spiced, this Applesauce Cake combines the natural sweetness of applesauce with warm cinnamon and nutmeg, making a perfect comforting dessert or snack.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, combine applesauce, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in the nuts if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before slicing and serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar or serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
