These Basketball Pretzel Cookies combine salty pretzels and sweet cookie dough, shaped and decorated to look like mini basketballs—perfect for game day snacks or parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups pretzels (twists or rods), broken into halves or thirds
  • 1/2 cup orange sanding sugar or orange sprinkles
  • Chocolate icing or melted chocolate for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract; beat until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the broken pretzel pieces evenly into the dough.
  7. Scoop dough by tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets and gently flatten slightly.
  8. Sprinkle the tops with orange sanding sugar to give a basketball-like color.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. Using chocolate icing or melted chocolate, pipe basketball lines on each cookie to mimic the design of a basketball.
  12. Let icing set before serving.

Notes

For a fun twist, use white chocolate instead of regular chocolate for the basketball lines or add a pinch of cinnamon to the dough for a subtle warm flavor.
