  • 1 pound Italian sausage, removed from casing
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned.
  2. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream, then stir in dried sage. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  4. Meanwhile, cook gnocchi according to package directions. Drain and add to the skillet with the sausage sauce.
  5. Stir in Parmesan cheese and toss to coat the gnocchi. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan cheese.

For an extra touch of richness, add a tablespoon of butter to the sauce at the end. You can also use different types of sausage, such as sweet Italian or spicy Italian, to customize the flavor.
