This cheesy green bean casserole is a comforting classic with a flavorful twist. Fresh green beans are baked in a creamy sauce and topped with crispy fried onions and cheddar cheese for a satisfying side dish.

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Steam or boil green beans until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, and pepper. Stir in green beans and 1/2 cup cheddar cheese.
  4. Pour mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Top with remaining cheddar cheese and French fried onions. Bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted and onions are golden brown.
  7. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a dash of hot sauce to the soup mixture.
