  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Optional: Decorate with sprinkles before baking.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let cookies cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a festive touch, add a glaze made from powdered sugar and orange juice to the cooled cookies.
