This Christmas Cracker Candy, also known as Saltine Toffee, is a sweet and salty treat that’s incredibly easy to make. With just a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a delicious homemade candy perfect for holiday gifting or snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (milk, dark, or semi-sweet)
  • Optional toppings: sprinkles, chopped nuts, sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it out with a spatula if necessary.
  6. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and slightly darker in color.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel. Let stand for a few minutes until the chocolate is melted.
  8. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel layer.
  9. Sprinkle with desired toppings (sprinkles, chopped nuts, sea salt).
  10. Let cool completely in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is set.
  11. Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use salted butter and omit the sea salt topping. You can also use different types of chocolate, such as white chocolate or peanut butter chips.
