chicken parmesan

Chicken Parmesan is a classic Italian-American dish featuring breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place flour in a shallow dish. In a second dish, beat eggs. In a third dish, mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pound chicken breasts to even thickness if needed. Dredge each chicken breast first in flour, shaking off excess, then dip in beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken breasts until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Place fried chicken breasts in a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce evenly over each piece, then sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden and chicken is cooked through.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, serve with a side of spaghetti tossed in olive oil and garlic or a fresh green salad.
