sausage pasta

Sausage pasta is a hearty and flavorful Italian-inspired dish combining savory sausage with tender pasta and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz pasta (penne or rigatoni)
  • 12 oz Italian sausage, sliced or crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano)
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat; add the sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up if using ground sausage.
  3. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in dried Italian herbs; simmer for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, mixing until the sauce is creamy and heated through.
  6. Toss the cooked pasta into the sauce, coating evenly; season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce or top with freshly grated Parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil before serving.
