French Butter Cake

French Butter Cake is a rich, moist dessert with a tender crumb and buttery flavor, perfect for any occasion or afternoon tea.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, dust the top with powdered sugar or serve with fresh berries and whipped cream.
