Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 3/4-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Using a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet, close together for soft sides.
  7. Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes
