Freshly Prepared Homemade Candy Apples Close-Up

Crisp apples coated in a glossy, sweet candy shell make this classic treat perfect for fall festivals and celebrations. Homemade candy apples are simple to make and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized apples, washed and dried
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Wooden sticks or skewers

Instructions

  1. Insert wooden sticks firmly into the tops of each apple, about halfway through.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  3. Attach a candy thermometer to the pan and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Remove the pan from heat and quickly stir in red food coloring and vanilla extract, if using.
  5. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, turning to coat evenly. Allow excess to drip off.
  6. Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and harden completely.
  7. Once set, serve immediately or store in a cool, dry place until ready to enjoy.

Notes

For extra flair, roll the candy-coated apples in chopped nuts or sprinkles immediately after dipping for added texture and flavor.
