King Cake Bites

Delight in these bite-sized King Cake treats featuring sweet dough, cinnamon, and colorful festive sugar, perfect for any Mardi Gras celebration or dessert platter.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Colored sanding sugar (purple, green, gold) for topping
  • 1 egg, beaten, for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon together.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and brush with beaten egg.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the pastry.
  5. Roll the pastry sheet tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch pieces.
  6. Arrange the slices cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. While baking, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Once baked and cooled slightly, pipe or spoon the cream cheese filling on top of each bite.
  10. Sprinkle with purple, green, and gold sanding sugar to mimic King Cake colors.
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For extra flavor, drizzle a simple glaze of powdered sugar and milk over the bites before adding colored sugar, or add chopped pecans for crunch.
