Lasagna with Ricotta Cheese

A classic Italian lasagna layered with creamy ricotta cheese, savory meat sauce, and melted mozzarella for a comforting and hearty meal.

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, cook until browned; drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  7. Layer 3 noodles over the sauce, spread half of the ricotta mixture, then half of the meat sauce, and sprinkle with mozzarella.
  8. Repeat layers once more, ending with noodles topped with remaining meat sauce and mozzarella. Sprinkle remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with sautéed mushrooms and spinach.
