Irresistible Homemade Loaded Green Bean Casserole

This isn’t your grandma’s green bean casserole! We’ve loaded it with bacon, cheddar cheese, and crispy fried onions for an irresistible twist on a classic side dish.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add green beans, salt, and pepper and cook until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine green beans, bacon, cheddar cheese, cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
  4. Pour mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with 2/3 cup crispy fried onions.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.
  6. Sprinkle remaining 2/3 cup crispy fried onions over the top and bake for 5 more minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

For an extra smoky flavor, use smoked bacon. Serve immediately for the best texture.
