This Mozzarella Chicken in Basil Cream Sauce is an easy and elegant weeknight meal. Tender chicken breasts are pan-seared and smothered in a luscious basil cream sauce, then topped with melted mozzarella for a truly unforgettable dish.

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced

Instructions

  1. Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium. Add garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute, or until fragrant.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, or until sauce has thickened slightly.
  6. Stir in basil and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Return chicken breasts to the skillet. Top each chicken breast with mozzarella slices.
  8. Cover the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until mozzarella is melted.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

Serve over pasta or rice for a complete meal. You can also add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
