  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, then add the orange zest and orange juice, mixing until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cloves, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon if using.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
  6. Roll tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass or your palm.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
