  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the sourdough starter, melted butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow muffins to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of coarse sugar on top of each muffin before baking for a sweet, crunchy topping.
