Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 2 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • ¾ cup water

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water and 1 cup of sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add cranberries to the sugar syrup and cook for 1 minute, stirring gently.
  3. Remove from heat and let cranberries sit in the syrup for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours.
  4. Drain cranberries in a colander and discard the syrup.
  5. Place the remaining 1 cup of sugar in a bowl. Add the drained cranberries and toss to coat evenly.
  6. Spread the sugared cranberries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them dry for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 hours, until the sugar coating is hardened.
  7. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

For a more intense flavor, try adding a teaspoon of orange or lemon zest to the sugar before coating the cranberries.
